Official Opening of Chemotherapy Services Room

RE:  Official Opening of Chemotherapy Services Room

Perth, ON – The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital has worked with the Regional Systemic Treatment Program in Kingston, part of Cancer Care Ontario to strengthen the regional capacity to optimize appropriate delivery of care for systemic treatment for certain types of cancer. The delivery of safe, high-quality systemic treatment (ST) or chemotherapy treatment is supported in part through a regional framework and will benefit the patients who reside in our catchment area.

As the demand for chemotherapy treatment services grows, there is a need to continue to build upon existing relationships with hospitals and healthcare partners in the South Eastern Ontario region to support regionally-optimized and appropriate delivery of treatment.

Thanks to the generous donations through the Great War Memorial Hospital Foundation, the original chemo room has upgraded the equipment and completed a renovation of the space.

This room is dedicated to celebrating the lives of Hilary Drummond, Dr. Erin Savage and Yarrow Viets. All of these ladies’ lives have touched family, friends and co-workers in Lanark County and the health care community here.

“This project could not have been done without the strong support of our entire community. This will allow patients to receive care closer to home and lessen their need to travel to Kingston for treatment and care,” stated Karen Rennie, Chair of the GWM Foundation.

The program operates Monday to Friday at the Great War Memorial Site and patients will be received through referrals from Kingston Health Sciences Centre (formerly Kingston General Hospital). It is anticipated that approximately 300+ treatments will be provided to area residents on an annual basis.

“This program is a terrific example of health care partners working together who are dedicated to improving overall patient care and access to service. This coordination of services speaks to the efforts made to offer services to patients closer to home,” stated Michele Bellows, Vice President, Patient Care Services & CNE.

The official opening of the space is planned for Thursday, April 20, 2017
