RE: Hospital Announces New President & CEO

Smiths Falls, Ontario – Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Directors announces the appointment of a new President & Chief Executive Officer, Beverley McFarlane.

Ms. McFarlane is a registered nurse with executive level experience who joins our organization from Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare. She most recently held the position of Chief, Quality and Chief Nursing Executive at that multi-site organization. Prior to this position, she served as the Director, Nursing and Diagnostic Services.

She will officially commence her duties on Monday, October 6, 2014. Retiring President & CEO, Linda Bisonette will remain at the hospital until October 31, 2014 to allow for some transitional time with Ms. McFarlane.

The engagement of Ms. McFarlane concludes a rigorous and lengthy recruitment process for the organization that resulted in a number of excellent and varied candidates. The goal of the recruitment committee was to find a person who would be able to continue the momentum and progress achieved under the leadership of Linda Bisonette.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am certainly pleased with the outcome of the recruitment process. I feel we have engaged the right person to keep our organization moving in the right direction,” stated Richard Schooley, Chair, PSFDH Board of Directors. He added that, “Ms. McFarlane joins us from another multi-site organization situated on the border of two Local Health Integration Networks similar to that of PSFDH which will give her the right perspective when determining what will best fit PSFDH and area needs.”

Paul Huras, CEO, South East Local Health Integration Network commented, “on behalf of the South East LHIN, I congratulate the Board on securing such a quality leader as Beverley. I look forward to working with her as we all try to improve access to high quality care in the Perth Smith Falls area and across the South East. I also will miss working with Linda and wish her the best.”

Ms. McFarlane is a native of Huntsville, Ontario and brings with her 30 years of health care experience. She is a graduate of Laurentian University and recently achieved her Masters of Arts in Leadership Studies.

She is an engaged senior healthcare executive with extensive leadership experience in a broad range of clinical, corporate and systems portfolios in a community hospital setting. Her healthcare leadership responsibilities have continuously increased since 1990 with a bedside to board room focus.

“I am excited with this step in my career and I look to working with this organization. Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital has a solid reputation for providing high quality care and service which is reflected in its recent achievement of exemplary standing from Accreditation Canada,” commented Bev McFarlane, incoming President & CEO.

“The Board of Directors is truly grateful to Linda (Bisonette) for her hard work in not only stabilizing our organization, but in moving initiatives forward in the catchment area’s best interest,” stated Mr. Schooley. “The Board offers their good wishes to Linda in her retirement from our organization.” Linda Bisonette assumed the role of President & CEO in June 2012 after being with the hospital for over 30 years.

“Ms. McFarlane will join a team of extremely competent and committed staff, physicians and volunteers who will welcome her and facilitate her transition into her new role,” commented Linda Bisonette.
