HOSPITAL ANNOUNCES PLAN TO RENOVATE MEDICAL CENTRE

SMITHS FALLS, ON – The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Board of Directors has approved a vision which would see the 6,000 square foot medical centre (located at 39 Drummond Street West in Perth) owned by the hospital undergo extensive renovations for the purpose of creating a complex designed primarily to house physicians.  AThe reason is clear. The time is now,@ said Tim Carter board Chair.  The goal is to create a centre whereby we will be successful in recruiting additional family physicians.  Doing so means residents will have improved access to a primary care physician.  AThis renovation demonstrates our continued commitment to our patients, physicians and community,@ he went on to add.

T. Stepanuik, President & CEO noted that the project is a very important initiative and provides great economic and community support to the Town of Perth and outlying area.  “It represents our ongoing effort to recruit and improve access to family physicians.  I have every confidence that the new medical centre will be a key incentive for attracting new physicians,@said Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO.

It is unknown when construction will commence as the hospital needs to secure one time capital funds prior to the project commencing. By redesigning the Centre, the hospital expects that residents will have improved accessibility to primary care physicians as the renovations will enable the centre to increase the complement of family physicians.  “We expect it to be 100% occupied when the renovations are complete as we continue to cultivate a number of prospective family physicians interested in the area,” stated T. Stepanuik.

Perth Mayor John Fenik added, AWe are very excited that the Hospital is forging ahead with this exciting initiative.  It is a significant economic development project for the Town.  The hospital is a very valued friend and partner.  We welcome the project and are extremely grateful for the ongoing leadership and continued support the hospital provides to our community.@

The hospital is confident that this strategic direction/decision will prove to be a good long term investment in healthcare.
