Smiths Falls, ON –  The Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital faired very well in the most recent Hospital Reports 2008 – Acute Care & Emergency Care.  This is an initiative of the Health System Performance Research Network.

The Hospital Report compares in excess of 100 hospitals across Ontario on information collected in four key quadrants:

–                      system integration and change;

–                      patient satisfaction;

–                      clinical utilization and outcomes; and

–                      financial performance and conditions.

The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital was one of only seven hospitals in the Province of Ontario to receive the distinction of “High Performing Hospital” in the area of patient satisfaction for acute care services and only one of eleven Ontario hospitals identified as “High Performer” for patient satisfaction for emergency care.

The hospital was also the highest performer in the South East Local Health Integration Network for patient satisfaction in both emergency and acute care.  In fact, the hospital was the only one in the South East Local Health Integration Network to be formally recognized by patients and families.

“We are very pleased that patients’ view their overall hospital experience as being positive.  The results are a clear indication of the confidence they have in our organization” said Linda Bisonette, Vice President, Patient Care and CNO.

Under patient care, four areas were measured:

–                      communication;

–                      responsiveness;

–                      consideration; and

–                      overall impressions.

“Communication” is defined as the patient’s view of how well information and communication to them or their families were delivered.

“Responsiveness” is defined as the patient’s view of the extent to which they got the care they needed and how coordinated and integrated that care was when it was delivered.

“Consideration” is defined as a patient’s view of whether they were treated with respect, dignity and courtesy during their hospital stay.

Tim Carter, Chair, Board of Directors, passed along his congratulations to the entire hospital team for their ongoing efforts and dedication.  He stated, “we are fortunate that we have received overwhelmingly positive marks from the people we serve.  It is indeed a credit to our nurses, physicians, volunteers and all staff for earning such a positive result in the latest hospital report.”

Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO added, “Our renewed status as a high performing hospital is a tribute to our entire hospital family for their ongoing dedication and commitment to the provision of high quality, patient focussed care.”
