Smiths Falls, ON –  The smile that greets you at the door, a helping hand in the Day Surgery Clinic, a cheerful presence as you browse the gift shop; all of these and many, many more are the faces of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital volunteers.  Many faces, many caring jobs and many caring souls.

There are over 150 people who generously give the gift of their time, skill, energy and kindness to patients and staff of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.  Each year, volunteers of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital contribute a combined total of approximately 25,000 hours to the two sites and its patients.

“It is hard to say enough about these lovely people,” says Tim Carter, Chair, Hospital Board of Directors.  “What they (the volunteers) do is extraordinary.”

The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital’s reliance on volunteers of all kinds who give countless hours of their time to ensure the highest quality of care for patients through their hardwork, compassion and dedication and the invaluable support that complements the work of our staff is most certainly appreciated.

“Our volunteers’ contributions are vast and diverse,” said Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO.  “Volunteers are an essential part of our healthcare team and I would like to take this opportunity to extend my personal heartfelt thanks to each and every one of our many volunteers for their unwavering commitment to improving healthcare and the lives of others.”

On Thursday, April 23, 2009, the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is hosting its annual Volunteer Appreciation Tea to recognize the contributions the more than 150 volunteers that make as valued members of our healthcare team.
