Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Recognized by Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation

SMITHS FALLS, ON –  The Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital is very pleased to announce that it has been granted accreditation by the Canadian Council of Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA).

The site visit (“survey”) includes a review of documentation, team interviews, facility tours and focus group meetings with various stakeholders.  The recent survey included direct feedback from patients and their families and other community stakeholders such as other hospitals within the area, Community Care Access Centre.

The feedback from the community and stakeholders provided powerful insight to the hospital and staff reinforcing the community’s valuing and expectations of the services offered by the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

The volunteer accreditation process is used by the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital and other Canadian hospitals for the purpose of evaluating one’s services against the national standard of delivery and to continuously better the quality of patient care.

The recent visit was conducted over a three-day period from October 30, 2007 to November 1, 2007.  Todd Stepanuik, President & CEO, extended his gratitude to all who contributed to the process including staff members, physicians, board members, community partners and members of the foundations and auxiliaries.

Brandi Machan, Chair, Board of Directors stated, “The remarks made by the survey team about this organization, its people and its processes are exceptional.  I would like to thank them all on behalf of the Board of Directors for their great efforts both for the accreditation process and for what they bring each and every day.”

Todd Stepanuik went on to state, “We are very pleased with the report and that we are recognized as an organization whereby all 21 of the required organizational practices around patient safety were met.”

Adele McCleery, Manager, Quality, added, “I am proud of this accomplishment and I would like to commend all staff, physicians, volunteers and board members for their hard work and dedication to continually improve the quality of care and services we provide.”

In the coming weeks, the Hospital will proudly fly the CCHSA accreditation banners at the exterior of each hospital site.  The full accreditation award is granted for three years and the hospital has already begun preparations for the next accreditation survey scheduled to take place in 2010.
